Improved Morphological Filter Based on Variational Mode Decomposition for MEMS Gyroscope De-Noising

Abstract: An adaptive multi-scale method based on the combination generalized morphological filter (CGMF) is presented for de-noising of the output signal from a MEMS gyroscope. A variational mode decomposition is employed to decompose the original signal into multi-scale modes. After choosing a length selection for the structure element (SE), the adaptive multi-scale CGMF method reduces the noise corresponding to the different modes, after which a reconstruction of the de-noised signal is obtained. From an analysis of … Show more

“…MEMS-IMU has attracted much attention in the recent years owing to their low cost, small size, and ease of integration [ 1 ]. This device is ushering in a huge market demand, as it has become an important component of different navigation systems, attitude control devices [ 2 ], unmanned aerial vehicles [ 3 ], robot navigation [ 4 , 5 , 6 ], satellite systems [ 7 ], etc. MEMS-IMU system is often affected by various factors characterized on environmental, electronic, and manufacturing noises all leading to random navigation errors when using MEMS-IMU [ 8 , 9 ].…”

“…The principle of mathematical morphology is designing a structure operator which could move constantly in the signal and match the signal exactly, suppress the noise and keep the detail. The morphology transformation includes several kinds of basic operations, the eroding operation, dilating operation, open operation, close operation, and the combination of them [26]. This method was mainly used in image processing at the initial stage.…”
