Abstract:Determination of solar magnetic fields with a spatial resolution set by the diffraction limit of a telescope is difficult because the time required to measure the Stokes vector with sufficient signal-to-noise ratio is long compared to the solar evolution timescale. This difficulty becomes greater with increasing telescope size as the photon flux per diffraction-limited resolution element remains constant but the evolution timescale decreases linearly with the diffraction-limited resolution. We aim to improve m… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
