Improved reproductive performance of captive male broodstock of tiger shrimp Penaeus monodon with 17α-methyltestosterone induction

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of different 17αmethyltestosterone injection frequencies at optimal doses to improve the quality of spermatophore and reproductive performance of captive male broodstock of tiger shrimp Penaeus monodon. Broodstocks of tiger shrimp weighing 51-65 g for males and 86-161 g for females were collected from ponds and stored in a 3,000 m 3 concrete tank. Male broodstocks were injected with 17α-methyltestosterone at the optimized protocol at 300 ng/100 g body wei… Show more

“…Maheswarudu et al (2015) explained that the testosterone hormone induces spermatozoa development in tiger shrimps. The most commonly used testosterone hormone is 17αmethyltestosterone (Mulyaningrum et al, 2021;Rosmiati et al, 2022). .…”

“…The two treatments were (A) administration of the 17α-MT hormone by oral method and (B) administration of the 17α-MT hormone by injection method. The dose of the hormone given was 300 ng/100 g bw based on the optimized protocol previously reported by Rosmiati et al, [17]. Shrimp maintenance was carried out for 38 days.…”

“…Later, Mulyaningrum et al, [16] obtained sperm quality P. monodon increased after injection of 17α-MT at an optimal dose of 300 ng /100 g bw. Based on the optimal dose, the study continued to get the optimal dose and frequency of 17α-MT injection in improving the quality of the male tiger shrimp broodstock in captivity and obtaining the use of MT at a dose of 300 ng / 100 g of body weight with an injection frequency of 4 times quite effective in improving the reproductive performance of domesticated tiger shrimp broodstock [17].…”
