This paper reports world averages of measurements of b-hadron, c-hadron, and τ -lepton properties obtained by the Heavy Flavour Averaging Group using results available before April 2021. In rare cases, significant results obtained several months later are also used. For the averaging, common input parameters used in the various analyses are adjusted (rescaled) to common values, and known correlations are taken into account. The averages include branching fractions, lifetimes, neutral meson mixing parameters, CP violation parameters, parameters of semileptonic decays, and Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements. The proportions of the various production channels for non-strange B mesons have also been measured [22]. 4.3 b-hadron production fractions at high energy At high energy, all species of weakly decaying b hadrons may be produced, either directly or in strong and electromagnetic decays of excited b hadrons. Before 2010, it was assumed that the fractions of different species in unbiased samples of high-p T b-hadron jets where independent of whether they originated from Z decays, pp collisions at the Tevatron, or pp collisions at the LHC. This hypothesis was plausible under the condition Q 2 Λ 2 QCD , namely, that the square of the momentum transfer to the produced b quarks is large compared with the square of the hadronization energy scale. This hypothesis is correct in the limit p T → ∞, in which the production mechanism of a b hadron is completely described by the fragmentation of the b quark. For finite p T , however, there are interference effects of the production mechanism of the b quark and its hadronization. While formally suppressed by inverse powers of p T , these effects may be sizable, especially when the fragmentation probabilities are small as, e.g., in the case of b baryons. In fact, the available data show that the fractions depend on the kinematics of the produced b hadron. Both CDF and LHCb reported a p T dependence of the fractions, with the fraction of Λ 0 b baryons observed at low p T being enhanced with respect to that seen at LEP at higher p T . BackgroundAnxiety and depression are highly prevalent and often comorbid mental disorders that are encompassed within the broad category of emotional disorders. The frequent comorbidity of anxiety and depression can pose challenges for accurate diagnosis and treatment which, in turn, highlights the need for reliable measurements that are simultaneously responsive to change and prevent non-response bias. Brief measures of anxiety and depression can potentially increase response rates due to their brevity and ease of administration. This study evaluates the psychometric characteristics, discriminative accuracy, and sensitivity to change of the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 2-item scale (GAD-2) and the Patient Health Questionnaire 2-item scale (PHQ-2) within a clinical population.MethodThe sample comprised treatment-seeking participants (n = 3,411), screened (n = 2,477) to receive an internet-based psychotherapeutic intervention (cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, or waitlist).ResultsBrief measures can effectively detect individuals who may be eligible for a diagnosis of depression and anxiety, not only prior to but also during and following the completion of psychological treatment. The discriminative ability of the GAD-2 was significantly greater during active treatment and at post-assessment compared with pre-treatment screening, although no such differences were found for the PHQ-2. Finally, endorsing the most severe response option on the GAD-2 and PHQ-2 was associated with a high probability of presenting with clinically relevant anxiety and depressive symptoms.ConclusionBrief measures of anxiety and depression are viable instruments to screen for and monitor anxiety and depressive symptoms.Clinical trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov, identifier NCT05016843.

ImportanceThe COVID-19 pandemic placed many physicians in situations of increased stress and challenging resource allocation decisions. Insight into the prevalence of posttraumatic stress disorder in physicians and its risk factors during the COVID-19 pandemic will guide interventions to prevent its development.ObjectiveTo determine the prevalence of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among physicians during the COVID-19 pandemic and examine variations based on factors, such as sex, age, medical specialty, and career stage.Data SourcesA Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses–compliant systematic review was conducted, searching MEDLINE, Embase, and PsychInfo, from December 2019 to November 2022. Search terms included MeSH (medical subject heading) terms and keywords associated with physicians as the population and PTSD.Study SelectionPeer-reviewed published studies reporting on PTSD as a probable diagnosis via validated questionnaires or clinician diagnosis were included. The studies were reviewed by 6 reviewers.Data Extraction and SynthesisA random-effects meta-analysis was used to pool estimates of PTSD prevalence and calculate odds ratios (ORs) for relevant physician characteristics.Main Outcomes and MeasuresThe primary outcome of interest was the prevalence of PTSD in physicians, identified by standardized questionnaires.ResultsFifty-seven studies with a total of 28 965 participants and 25 countries were included (of those that reported sex: 5917 of 11 239 [52.6%] were male and 5322 of 11 239 [47.4%] were female; of those that reported career stage: 4148 of 11 186 [37.1%] were medical trainees and 7038 of 11 186 [62.9%] were attending physicians). The estimated pooled prevalence of PTSD was 18.3% (95% CI, 15.2%-22.8%; I2 = 97%). Fourteen studies (22.8%) reported sex, and it was found that female physicians were more likely to develop PTSD (OR, 1.93; 95% CI, 1.56-2.39). Of the 10 studies (17.5%) reporting age, younger physicians reported less PTSD. Among the 13 studies (22.8%) reporting specialty, PTSD was most common among emergency department doctors. Among the 16 studies (28.1%) reporting career stage, trainees were more prone to developing PTSD than attendings (OR, 1.33; 95% CI, 1.12-1.57).Conclusions and RelevanceIn this meta-analysis examining PTSD during COVID-19, 18.3% of physicians reported symptoms consistent with PTSD, with a higher risk in female physicians, older physiciansy, and trainees, and with variation by specialty. Targeted interventions to support physician well-being during traumatic events like pandemics are required.
