Improvement Approach for Matching PV-array and Inverter of Grid Connected PV Systems Verified by a Case Study

Abstract: Correct matching between PV array and inverter improves the inverter efficiency, increases the annual produced energy, decreases the clipping losses of the inverter, and prevent to a large extent the inverter frequent shut downs during clear sunny days of high solar radiation and low ambient temperature. Therefore, this paper presents a new methodology for selecting the appropriate peak power of the PV array with respect to the inverter output AC rated power taking into account the local daily distribution of … Show more

“…In a series connection, the voltage output will increase according to the module number, while in a parallel connection, the current output will rise according to the module number. Therefore, to determine the series-parallel connection of the PV modules, (4), (5), and (6) are used [11], [12]. 𝑉 min_𝑖𝑛𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑡𝑒𝑟 is the minimum input voltage of the inverter, 𝑉 max_𝑖𝑛𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑡𝑒𝑟 is the maximum input voltage of inverter, 𝑉 𝑜𝑐_𝑚𝑜𝑑𝑢𝑙𝑒 is open circuit voltage of PV module, 𝑉 𝑚𝑝_𝑚𝑜𝑑𝑢𝑙𝑒 is the voltage at maximum power point of PV module, 𝐼 max_𝑖𝑛𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑡𝑒𝑟_𝑖𝑛𝑝𝑢𝑡 is maximum input current of inverter and 𝐼 𝑚𝑝_𝑚𝑜𝑑𝑢𝑙𝑒 is current at maximum power point of PV module.…”

“…The inverter was equipped with a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) controller to regulate the DC side of the inverter by using a DC-DC boost converter. The duty ratio of the boost converter changes according to the MPPT Perturb and Observe (P&O) technique to obtain the maximum power from the PV panels and maintain a constant DC voltage input to the inverter of 800 V which is suitable for 400V line to line voltage of PV three phase inverter (12). The control of active power in a photovoltaic (PV) inverter is a complex process that involves several components and techniques as shown in Figure 5, the DC link controller, which regulates the DC voltage to remain constant around 800 volts.…”
