Improvement in electromechanical performance of degradable bio‐inspired soft ionic actuators with high energy density conductive electrodes

Abstract: Recently, renewable natural electroactive soft ionic actuators have attracted widespread attention to its potential applications in biomedical equipment, soft robots, and micro‐nano actuators and sensors, and so on. However, low‐energy conversion rates, unstable stability, and slow response speed that severely constrain their practical application. In this article, three kinds of conductive nanoparticles (polyaniline [PANI], polythiophene and its derivatives [PEDOT], and acetylene black [ACET]) are co‐doped in… Show more

“…Fortunately, the rapid development of stiffness variable materials in the past decade provides a viable avenue to meet this requirement. Stiffness variable materials, which will exhibit flexibility at their soft state and excellent loading ability at their rigid state, are able to change their stiffness under various stimuli 7–13 . Therefore, it is highly desired to develop stiffness variable materials and incorporate them into actuators.…”

“…After the preparation of electrically actuated membranes and electrode membranes, they need to be assembled to be useful. To achieve the assembly of electrically actuated membranes and electrode membranes, hot press bonding 23,24 is the most frequently employed method. However, the artificial muscle after bonding with a hot press is in a poor contact state in many places at the microscopic scale.…”
