Improvement in vanadium-containing titanomagnetite processing technology

Abstract: The article describes the modern technology of iron smelting from vanadiumcontaining titanomagnetite. The complex of research presented by the NTMK team and the leading research teams of the Ural Institute of metals, the metallurgical Institute of the Ural branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the Ural Federal University is the basis for achieving high productivity of the blast furnaces EVRAZ NTMK. The presented research and development works are the basis for the technology of metallurgical processin… Show more

“…The auxiliary items (or intermediate items) are vanadium pentoxide and vanadium trioxide, which are generally utilized as impetuses for the development of sulfuric acid and as impetuses for petroleum refining. Tertiary items (or consumable items) include ferrovanadium, vanadium−aluminum alloy, molybdenum−vanadium-aluminum alloy, silicomanganese−vanadium ferroalloy, and vanadium compounds, of which ferrovanadium and vanadium−nitrogen composites are the main vanadium materials. The NTMK team 29 presents a basic technology of metallurgical processing of vanadiumcontaining titanium magnetite. By utilizing current loading devices and expanding the oxygen content in the air, the substance of titanium in cast iron has been diminished, which is helpful in working on the result of vanadium.…”

“…Titanium magnetite concentrate is used as a raw material for iron production, and ilmenite concentrate is used for the production of titanium dioxide after vanadium–titanium magnetite processing. , The titanium-magnetite concentrate is usually smelted in a conventional blast furnace to produce molten iron containing vanadium, titanium, and chromium. , To recover vanadium, which is reduced and dissolved during the blast furnace smelting process, the molten iron is then blown into an oxygen converter. Vanadium slag is formed when some iron is oxidized, and this results in the production of vanadium, titanium, chromium, and a few impurities .…”

“…In titanomagnetite, a small amount of vanadium and chromium exist simultaneously by substituting titanium [3]. After the beneficiation process of VTM, the obtained titanomagnetite concentrate is used as feedstock for iron-making, and ilmenite concentrate is used for producing titanium dioxide [4,5].…”
