Improvement of Active Biological Sludge Quality for Anaerobic Digestion Phase in the Wastewater Treatment Plant by Ultrasonic Pretreatment

Abstract: This paper emphasized the influence of the main operating parameters of ultrasonic biological sludge pretreatment onto disintegration (DD-COD) and solubilizing degree of organic matter content. The optimal ultrasonic reaction time, energy and amplitude of ultrasonic waves and pH of the sludge (non-modified pH and pH 8.5) were established taking into account their influence on the solubility level of COD, an evolution of particles size. Correlations between disintegration degree and dimensional analysis were pe… Show more

“…These features allow the development of spontaneous vegetation. In order to be replicated in the economic circuit, it is necessary to choose the species that are suitable for the biological recultivation, in order to be sure that one is retrofitting ecologically these degraded lands and the use of purified sludge [10,11,13] is thus achieved and suitable. Taking into consideration the nutrients in the soil, one selected wheat and barley plants.…”

“…It is noted that the sludge obtained from the purification [10][11][12][13] contains clay particles entrained by the streams in the sewerage network, organic substances from domestic waters [14] and human waste, soluble or insoluble salts, various cationic species and anions retained by the colloidal fraction of organic or mineral nature [1,7].…”

“…The management of biological sludge is a very important part of any municipal wastewater treatment plant activity. There are two main ways for biological sludge stabilization: aerobic method which is usually used in case of small waste water treatment plants and anaerobic fermentation [1]. Anaerobic fermentation is applied in medium and large municipal wastewater treatment plant for biogas production [2,3].…”

“…The municipal wastewater treatment plants of medium and high size have a specific flow of sludge treatment and conditioning. The biological excess sludge must be treated both for biogas generation and to reduce the volume (dewatering step) [1][2]. Some wastewater treatment plants have facilities of compost producing for agricultural purposes.…”

“…This ultrasonic pretreatment method can be adapted to be used in present wastewater treatment plants or could be include in the new designed WWTP [1,4,9]. A synthetic flow treatment scheme of the biological sludge will be presented in the experimental conclusions part.…”
