Improvement of Charpy impact properties in heat affected zones of API X80 pipeline steels containing complex oxides

Abstract: The present study aimed at investigating the improvement of Charpy impact properties in heat affected zones (HAZs) of API X80 pipeline steels containing complex oxides. Three kinds of steels were fabricated by adding Ti, Al and Mg to form complex oxides and their microstructures, tensile properties and Charpy impact properties were investigated. The number of complex oxides increased as the excess amount of Ti, Al and Mg was included in the steels. After the HAZ simulation test, the steel having a number of ox… Show more

“…Most of AFs are easily formed around oxides, as oxides provide nucleation sites for AF. [8][9][10][11] Oxides cannot play a role sufficiently as crack or void initiation sites, because they are surrounded by tough AFs. “…[7,8] Alloying elements such as Mg, Ti, and Al work effectively for oxide formation, and oxides formed by combining these alloying elements act as nucleation sites for fine AF during the austeniteferrite transformation. [9][10][11][12] Larger size and no. of oxides are more effective for the formation of AF.…”
