“…Several studies have reported positive effects of gibberellins (Hawerroth et al 2011, Vercammen and Gomand 2008, Deckers and Schoofs 2002 and TDZ (Amarante et al 2002, Petri et al 2001, Bianchi et al 2000 on fruit set of apple and pear trees when applied at full bloom. Significant increase in fruit set induced by TDZ 10 and 20 mg L -1 sprayed at full bloom was observed in 'Packham's Triumph' (Petri et al 2001) and 'Shinseiki' (Hawerroth et al 2011) pears, respectively.…”

“…The higher fruit set induced by these substances is usually due to a higher rate of parthenocarpy (Vercammen andGomand 2008, Petri et al 2001), which in some cases may lead to misshapen fruits (Bianchi et al 2000), mainly in response to high rates of TDZ (Greene 1995). Besides, the application of gibberellins may reduce flower bud formation and return bloom (Deckers and Schoofs 2002). Ethylene is also involved on the senescence and abscission of flowers and young fruits.…”

“…Antagonistic correlations between potassium and sodium were also reported by Hey, Kramer (1993) and Song, Fujiyama (1996). Talon et al (1992), Deckers (2002) and Dorcey et al (2009) also reported that foliar application of plant growth regulating substances, particularly GA 3 , have positive effect on yield quality and quantity. It may be due to the fact that during flowering and fruit setting stages, there is a critical demand for physiological activation to perform biological reactions in plants, which require a high amount of K and other nutrients (Ding et al 2006).…”

“…The use of mineral elements in this respects were cited on pear fruit using boron (Gobara, 1998;Taher and Hassan, 2005); boron and calcium (Abd El-Megeed et al, 2007); boron and zinc (Canesin et al, 2010); gibberellins (Deckers and Schoofs, 2002); bioregulator, combined applications auxin, cytokinin and gibberellin (Lafer, 2008); amino acids and polyamines (Franco-Mora et al, 2005); growth regulators, nutrients and amino acids (Stino et al, 2011) were also tried.…”
