Improvement of Transient State Response through Feedforward Compensation Method of AC/DC Power Conversion System (PCS) Based on Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM)

Abstract: In a DC distribution system configured by AC/DC power conversion system (PCS), the voltage control performance of the AC/DC PCS determines the stability and reliability of the DC distribution grid. The DC voltage of grid is maintained by capacitor, thus transient voltage is an inevitable problem when a grid is connected with a high amount of load or renewable energy. Space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) is well known as a stable modulation method and is used in AC/DC PCS and many types of topologies, bu… Show more

“…Therefore, high transient response and slow start-time are issues in the HVDC system. To overcome these problems, some methods are proposed to reduce transient responses, as follows: Feedforward compensator on AC-to-DC converter in DC distribution system [31], the ANN embedded by machine learning on converter/inverter switching [32], triangular source signal on DC-to-DC buck converter [33], internal feed-forward [34] and [35] feed-forward compensators on DC-to-DC converter.…”

“…The transient current response (TCR) problem has been paid more attention in HVDC [4], [31], [35], and their solutions using some methods are explained before. Nevertheless, IT2F optimized by GWO method has never been implemented to suppress the TCR problem.…”

“…Transient responses of voltage/current are very important in PS and power electronic researches because these responses should be constrained to protect the systems and devices from over-voltage/current on its operation. To improve transient response, some control schemes are proposed such as: ANFIS algorithm based on additional PID-loop to improve transient voltage response in PS [43], feed-forward compensation method [44], feed-forward capacitor [45], triangular wave generator through to adjust its slope [46] for DC-DC converters and feed-forward compensation model for DC-AC converter based on space vector-pulse width modulation [47]. However, research topic of transient responses improvement in HVDC using ANFIS control scheme has not been clearly discussed.…”

“…IGBT (Insulated gate bipolar transistor) and MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor FET) components are often damaged due to the high voltage applied to the DAB converter. This problem can be solved by increasing the duty ratio gradually from 0 up to 50% at the initial soft start-up operation of the DAB converter [28,29]. When the SC module is charged and discharged by a DAB converter, it initially performs a soft start-up operation to maintain a stable PWM switching [30].…”
