Improving barium ion adsorption on two-dimensional titanium carbide by surface modification

Abstract: Recently, 2D-MXene materials have attracted much attention. However, their low adsorption capacities for metal ions have limited their application in nuclear wastewater disposal. Here, we describe the unprecedentedly high adsorption by Ti3C2Tx for the removal of radionuclides by a simple and efficient surface modification strategy. We have produced an Alk-Ti3C2Tx material possessing desirable properties such as wide layer spacing and abundant active adsorption sites, with excellent ability to remove barium ion… Show more

“…After being etched by HCl-LiF, the Ti 3 AlC 2 characteristic peak of Al layers at 39°was disappeared, showing that Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene was successfully prepared. Meanwhile, the Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene of (002) plane was shift down to the 8.84°, the d-spacing of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene became larger than Ti 3 AlC 2 (Mu et al 2018). However, the characteristic peaks were basically the same after adsorbing Cr(VI), which indicated the structure of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene was stable during the adsorption process.…”
