Moringa (Moringa oleifera Lam.) leaf extract serves as a natural reservoir of carotenoids, prominently ?-carotene, effectively employed to augment the color quality of ornamental fish. This study aimed to evaluate the potential effects of adding fermented moringa leaf extract to feed to enhance the color vibrancy of Oranda goldfish (Carassius auratus (Linnaeus, 1758)). Moringa leaves were also fermented using Aspergillus niger Tiegh. at a dosage of 0.5 g/100 g for 48 hours, followed by extraction using 70% ethanol. Four doses of fermented moringa leaf extract (0, 40, 50, 60 mL/kg) with three replications were added to a commercial feed using the coating method. The results showed that the carotene in fermented moringa leaf extract is 94.22 ppm/50 mL. Adding moringa leaf extract to the feed enhanced the Oranda goldfish's brightness and color diversity. The addition of fermented moringa leaf extract at a dose of 60 mL/kg led to the highest color diversity values on the body (57.81%), caudal (71.71%), and head (71.13%) compared to other treatments. Moringa leaf extract did not affect growth rate, survival, blood profile, and water quality parameters for maintaining Oranda goldfish. The extract from A. niger had the potential to be used in the cultivation of Oranda goldfish, and the addition of 60 mL/kg achieved the best color brightness and diversity.

The feed plays a critical role in the success of freshwater lobster cultivation. Still, it often presents challenges due to its relatively high cost, accounting for up to 60% of production expenses. To address this issue, farmers in Sukabumi have devised various alternative feeds by harnessing different protein sources to reduce the expenditure on commercial pellets. One such innovation is a moist feed composed of a blend of pellets, cassava, and snails in a ratio of 1:1:1.4. However, there has yet to be prior testing of its nutritional content. Consequently, this study aims to evaluate the nutritional composition of this moist feed and assess its impact on the growth of freshwater lobsters and water quality. For this research, 100 lobsters ranging in size from 7 to 10 grams, were reared in fiberglass tanks. The lobsters were fed twice daily. The proximate analysis of the cassava and snail-based moist feed revealed protein content (20.52%), fat (2.61%), carbohydrates (12.87%), moisture content (50.64%), and ash content (13.36%). The lobsters exhibited a growth rate of 0.3% per day, and the water quality remained favorable, with parameters such as temperature (23-25°C), pH (6.5-7), dissolved oxygen (5-7 mg/L), nitrate (1.907 mg/L), nitrite (0.141 mg/L), ammonia (0.442 mg/L), phosphate (0.032 mg/L), and alkalinity (237.4 mg CaCO3/L) within acceptable ranges. These findings suggest that the moist feed provided by farmers lacks sufficient protein content to fully meet the nutritional requirements of lobsters, resulting in slower growth. On the other hand, water quality remains conducive for successful lobster farming.

Ensuring sustainability has increasingly become a significant concern not only in aquaculture but in the general agrifood sector. Therefore, it is imperative to investigate pathways to feed substitutes/best practices to enhance aquaculture sustainability. The application of fungi in aquaculture provides innovative methods to enhance the sustainability and productivity of aquaculture. Fungi play numerous roles in aquaculture, including growth, immunity enhancement and disease resistance. They also play a role in bioremediation of waste and bioflocculation. The application of fungi improves the suitability and utilization of terrestrial plant ingredients in aquaculture by reducing the fibre fractions and anti-nutritional factors and increasing the nutrients and mineral contents of plant ingredients. Fungi are good flotation agents and can enhance the buoyancy of aquafeed. Pigments from fungi enhance the colouration of fish fillets, making them more attractive to consumers. This paper, via the relevant literature, explores the multifaceted roles of fungi in aquaculture, emphasizing their potential to transform aquaculture through environmentally friendly and sustainable techniques. The effectiveness of fungi in reducing fibre fractions and enhancing nutrient availability is influenced by the duration of fermentation and the dosage administered, which may differ for various feed ingredients, making it difficult for most aquaculture farmers to apply fungi approximately. Therefore, the most effective dosage and fermentation duration for each feed ingredient should be investigated.
