Improving Stability Conditions for Equilibria of SIR Epidemic Model with Delay under Stochastic Perturbations

Abstract: So called SIR epidemic model with distributed delay and stochastic perturbations is considered. It is shown, that the known sufficient conditions of stability in probability of the equilibria of this model, formulated immediately in the terms of the system parameters, can be improved by virtue of the method of Lyapunov functionals construction and the method of Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs). It is also shown, that stability can be investigated immediately via numerical simulation of a solution of the consi… Show more

“…Equilibria of the system (54) are defined by the system of algebraic equations b=βSI+μ1S,βSI=(μ2+λ)I,λI=μ3R, with two solutions: E0=(bμ11,0,0) and the positive equilibrium E + = ( S ∗ , I ∗ , R ∗ ), where S=μ2+λβ<bμ1,I=b(S)1μ1β,R=λIμ3. Previously stability conditions for the SIR epidemic model (54) were investigated in References [1,25]. Stability conditions significantly improved by virtue of the proposed here method, including detail investigation of LMI of the type (16) by virtue of MATLAB, are presented in Reference [27].…”

“…It has to be pointed out that the stochastic formalism has been also seen to be useful in studying some concerns in the epidemic models behavior, typically, the influences of perturbations in the equilibrium points and uncertainties in the data. See, for instance, [31,32] and some references therein. Moreover, the relevance of modeling small communities can be useful for interpreting the disease evolution or taking intervention decisions since the total population is an aggregation of smaller communities [33].…”
