Improving the Accuracy of Decawave’s UWB MDEK1001 Location System by Gaining Access to Multiple Ranges

Abstract: The location of people, robots, and Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices has become increasingly important. Among the available location technologies, solutions based on ultrawideband (UWB) radio are having much success due to their accuracy, which is ideally at a centimeter level. However, this accuracy is degraded in most common indoor environments due to the presence of obstacles which block or reflect the radio signals used for ranging. One way to circumvent this difficulty is through robust estimation algorit… Show more

“…Depending on the use-case UWB can be used to obtain ranges through Two-Way Ranging (TWR) or through Time-Difference of Arrival (TDOA). While TWR based approaches have been typically limited by multi-user and anchor count scalability [4], research on TDOA based localization enabled scalable localization solutions such as [5][6][7][8].…”

“…With the diversification of embedded communication modules owing to the technological development of smartphones, RTLS (Real-time Locating systems) called IPS (Indoor Positioning Systems) based on such devices were developed. RTLS are a technology that checks or tracks the location of a person or object in the same way as an LBS (Location-based Service) based on a mobile communication network [ 1 , 2 ]. Among them, GPS is widely used as a representative positioning system.…”
