Improving the methods for determining the promising boundaries of iron ore open pits

Abstract: The article considers the determination of the final contours of the open pits. One of the problems of development of iron ore deposits at the present stage of development of opencast mining is described, which consists in the fact that in most open pits their working contours on the surface have reached final position. In these conditions, it is necessary to reevaluate the capabilities of the raw material base for further operation of mining enterprises. The analysis of scientific achievements in the decision… Show more

“…The Rivne-Volyn region of Ukraine is rich in deposits of zeolite-smectite tuffs, which are of great interest to the industry of Ukraine. Currently, their industrial extraction is not carried out, however, in the development of basalt deposits, in particular (Berestovetske deposit, Ivano-Dolynsk basalt deposit (Rivnen district), Rafaliv basalt deposit (Varas district)), tuffs are the host rock, and, as a rule, when loading the blasted basalt mass for processing tuffs are sent to the dump [6][7][8][9].…”

“…Open pit mining is associated with significant disturbance of arable land [1][2][3][4]. In particular, an area of 600-1,800 hectares is disturbed by one mine developing a horizontal deposit [5][6][7][8], which is subject to reclamation after the deposit exploitation [9][10][11][12]. At the same time, 80-85% of the total area of disturbed lands may be returned to agriculture [13][14][15][16].…”

The other 15-20% are disturbed by trenches [17][18][19][20], and the capital trench accounts for up to 80% of this area [21][22][23][24].…”

“…The economic conditions of mining operations are also characterized by significant dynamics: the price and demand for the products of mining enterprises changes [1], which leads to a change in the minimum industrial content of a useful component. Due to their inertia, open-pits, as large production systems, cannot adapt their production indicators to economic conditions quickly and efficiently [2][3][4][5]. At the same time, its timely increase is possible due to the development of man-made deposits of iron ore raw materials accumulated over the past decades.…”
