Abstract:The performance of carbon fibers depends on the properties of the precursor polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fibers. Stretching of PAN fibers results in improved tensile properties, while potentially reducing its compressive properties. To determine optimization trade-offs, the effect of coagulation conditions and the stretching process on the compressive modulus in the transverse direction (ET) was investigated. A method for accurately determining ET from polymer fibers with non-circular cross-sectional shapes is pres… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
