In-beam studies of203, 205Bi and shell-model features of odd-a bismuth isotopes

Abstract: States in 2~176are populated using the reaction 2~176The ~i13/2 single-proton states and all the members of the v(2~-)| rc h9/2 quintuplet are identified in both nuclei. The half-lives of the isomeric J~=21/2 § states in both isotopes are measured and found to be 90_+7ns and 100_6ns, and from these values suggestions for the half-lives of the previously reported J~= 25/2 -~ isomers are made. The structures of the multiplets of the form v(Pb)| are calculated in the framework of the shell model and it is shown t… Show more

“…The energies and intensities of the transitions depopulating iso~ meric states are given in Table 1. The agreement with earlier work [6][7][8] is good for those transitions which were assigned to 2o3, ~OSBi previously. For the search for the low energy isomeric transitions an electron spectrometer consisting of a superconducting solenoid and two high resolution cooled Si(Li) detectors was used [9].…”

“…ENERGY (keV) 1500 Because of the strong background 7-radiation of the target [11] on-line isotope separation was considered necessary. For this purpose we have used a new ISOL method, the IGISOL (Ion Guide Isotope Separator On-Line), that permits primary ions produced in nuclear reactions to be run directly through an isotope separator without an ion source [12,13].…”

“…Recently the decay properties of this state have been studied in 19a-~97Bi [9] where the 1/2 + state has dropped to the first excited state. The decay of the 1/2 + state in 2~ is observed both out-of-beam [3,4,10] and in-beam [11], but its half-life has not been measured. From the decay properties (E3, E3+M2 and a possible M4) its halflife was estimated to be about 5 s in [10] and in [11] a lower limit of about 3 gs was set.…”

“…Most of the high-spin states in heavier odd-A Bi isotopes can be explained by the coupling of an h 9/2 proton to the Pb core states [9,43,53,54] [56], respectively. We note that Band 5 has the same quasiparticle configuration as Band 2 after the neutron i 13/2 alignment.…”
