In-flight analysis of intracranial pressure in pilots undergoing variation in Gz

Abstract: Intracranial pressure (ICP) is an important clinical variable that remains inaccessible to doctors and aerospace professionals. Ten Pilots of the Brazilian Air Force Academy (AFA) were monitored with a Brain care Non-Invasive Intracranial Pressure Sensor during looping maneuvers. The intracranial pressure sensor used was the model BcSs-1000, developed by the Brain care team. The pilot performed the flight in the T-25 Aircraft used in the aviator training course at the Brazilian Air Force Academy (AFA).The ICP … Show more

“…As previously exposed, the noninvasive method used in this study was validated by comparison with the invasive ICP monitoring method [8,10] and has been used in the study of several situations, physiological and pathological, involving the central nervous system [41][42][43][44][45]. Based on this context, the routine uses of non-invasive ICP monitoring in RRT centers could contribute to the clinical evaluation of patients with ESRD.…”

“…Characteristic for shaking is that the consecutive rotationalloading cycles are causing a persistent high magnitude centripetal acceleration of the head [37]. This may cause an increase of both the intracranial-and arterial pressure [38], which may in turn lead to additional stresses and strains in vessel walls and surrounding tissue.…”

“…Since 2013, many articles have been published on the use of the Brain4Care® system in various diseases with variable results [2,5,8,10,19,27,[40][41][42][43][44]. The system uses a strain gauge sensor on the scalp, enabling noninvasive monitoring of ICP (nICP).…”
