“…In a demonstration project, the Cardiovascular Hospitalization Atherosclerosis Management Program, the in-hospital initiation of lipid-lowering therapy increased the percentage of patients treated with statins 1 year later from 10% to 91%, and for those with an LDL-C less than 100 mg per dL, the percentage increased from 6% to 58% (653), which suggests that predischarge initiation of lipid-lowering therapy enhances long-term compliance. Thus, there appear to be no adverse effects and substantial advantages to the initiation of lipid-lowering therapy before hospital discharge (652,654).
