In Place Calibration of the Aerodynamic and Propulsion Test Unit Air, Isobutane, and Liquid Oxygen System Venturi Tubes (invited)

Abstract: The Aerodynamic and Propulsion Test Unit (APTU) at the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC) has historically been used as a freejet test facility for missile scale systems. For propulsion system freejet tests, the mass-flow rate entering the engine has to be determined experimentally based on measurements made in the propulsion system flow path since a large fraction of the test medium exiting the freejet nozzle spills around the engine inlet. For the upcoming Medium Scale Critical Components (MSCC) t… Show more

“…[4][5][6][7] This paper addresses a new heated fuel system designed to supply superheated hydrocarbon fuel to a medium scale scramjet engine at APTU. This system is meant to simulate the heating of fuel through cooling passages along the interior and exterior surfaces of a scramjet-powered flight vehicle.…”

“…[4][5][6][7] This paper addresses three direct-connect convergent-divergent nozzles which have been designed to simulate flight conditions for a medium scale scramjet engine. These nozzles, in conjunction with a flow distortion generator, will provide flow directly to the isolator throat, replacing the engine inlet.…”
