Abstract: Malate transporter proteins (MTPs) play a pivotal role in regulating flux in the citrate/malate/pyruvate shuttle to deliver acetyl-CoA from the mitochondria to the cytosol and thus regulate lipid biosynthesis in oleaginous fungi.
