In situ grown cockscomb flower-like nanostructure of NiCo2S4 as high performance supercapacitors

Abstract: Cockscomb flower-like NiCo 2 S 4 composite material is made for supercapacitor application by using two step hydrothermal processes. The cockscomb flowerlike NiCo 2 S 4 architecture contains numerous ultrathin folded nanosheets which increases the active areas of the electrode and the three dimensional open space between the flower sheets facilitates the easy flow of electrolyte ions and leads to efficient utilization of active materials even at high current densities. Two kinds of composite electrodes were fa… Show more

“…To well address the above-mentioned issues, an intriguing strategy is to grow electroactive materials on conductive current collectors. Recently, nanoarrays of MMSs have been directly grown on conductive substrates, such as NF, [30,[111][112][113][114][115][116] carbon cloth (CC), [65,117,118] carbon fiber paper (CFP), [73,119,120] and so on, to construct 3D electrodes. Such binder-free and conductive-agent-free integrated electrodes can avoid the "dead surface" and the tedious process in preparing traditional slurry-coating electrodes and significantly improve the utilization rate of electroactive materials.…”

“…Beka et al. made cockscomb flower‐like NCS composite material (Figure d) for SC applications by using a two‐step hydrothermal process . The in situ grown cockscomb flower‐like NCS showed superior performance to that of cockscomb flower‐like NCS coated on nickel foam by avoiding the use of polymer binders, which added dead areas and increased resistance to electron and ion diffusion.…”

“…Binary metal sulfides have also been used, for the very first time, Xiao et al made an effort and prepared NiCo 2 S 4 nanotube arrays on a flexible carbon fiber paper for supercapacitors and due to the distinctive nano architecture and the inherently high electrical conductivity of NiCo 2 S 4 , an outstanding electrochemical performance was achieved [33] . Diverse morphologies (nano-tube, nano-sheet, cubic and flower) of ternary metal sulfides had also been inspected as high performance pseudo-capacitive materials [34,35] . A research study conducted by Li et al made new Ni 3 S 2 at CoS core-shell nano-triangular pyramid arrays through electrodeposition process [36] .…”
