In Situ Incorporation of Diamino Silane Group into Waterborne Polyurethane for Enhancing Surface Hydrophobicity of Coating

Abstract: A series of waterborne polyurethanes (WPU) with crosslinked siloxane were obtained through introducing 3-(2-aminoethylamino)propyldimethoxymethylsilane (APTS) into WPU by in situ polymerization. The properties of WPU modified by APTS were studied through a variety of experimental methods. The water contact angle of the WPU coating surface increased from 64° to 86°, and the water resistance reduced to 3.90% when 3 wt% APTS was added, which improved the coating surface hydrophobicity. Firstly, Fourier transform … Show more

“…Si-O-Si bending vibration is attributed to the characteristic peak appears at 1200-1250 cm −1 only on the vulcanized sample and strongly refers stable siloxane bonds formed during hydrolysis prior to silane vulcanization. 14,56,57 XPS study, which allows more detailed analysis of the sample surface chemistry, was aimed to verify and support preliminary ATR-FTIR experiments. C 1s , O 1s and Si 2p XPS spectrums are shown in Figure 10 for the amino and epoxy silane compounds, respectively.…”

“…[16,17]. Therefore, the standard coating thickness of polyurethane for high-speed EMU needs to reach 60-80 μm, while in some areas, because of repeated spraying, it reaches values >1.5 times that of the standard film thickness, which increases the dry film thickness to more than 100 μm [18,19]. The thickness of the coatings, which can be applied simultaneously, is limited by blistering defects.…”

“…Many scientists have been interested in silsesquioxane cage materials with a well-defined structure because such materials have a low dielectric constant and excellent thermal stability [1,2,3,4,5,6,7]. Additionally, these compounds find a wide range of applications in polymers [8,9,10,11], sensors [12], catalysis [7,8,9,13], organic light-emitting diodes [14], host-guest complexes [15,16], and porous materials [17].…”
