In‐situ preparation of porous monolithic polymer inside hollow fiber as a micro‐solid phase extraction device for glucocorticoids in cosmetics

Abstract: Glucocorticoids have a certain whitening effect on the skin. However, frequent and long‐term use of cosmetics including glucocorticoids is harmful to health. Herein, we proposed a novel micro‐solid phase extraction method for the detection of prednisolone acetate, prednisone, and prednisolone in cosmetics coupled with high‐performance liquid chromatography. In this method, porous monolithic polymer micro‐extraction bars were prepared by “one‐step, one‐pot” in situ photopolymerization combined with sacrificial … Show more

“…HF–μSPE fibers were prepared as we previously reported [27]. In short, Accurel Q 3/2 polypropylene hollow fibers (HFs, 600‐μm ID, 200‐μm wall thickness, and 0.2‐μm pore size) were cut into 3‐cm long pieces, ultrasonicated with acetone for 20 min, dried, and carefully weighed (m 1 ).…”

“…A device was constructed by placing a few adsorbents into a two-dimensional hollow-fiber membrane to prevent direct contact between the adsorbents and complex matrices, which largely eliminated matrix interference, and reduced adsorbent loss [25,26]. The HF-μSPE device [27,28] is simple and versatile, and the packing material can either be produced in-house or purchased commercially. The packing material affects the efficiency of HF-μSPE significantly [29].…”

“…Combined with HPLC, some modified PMME columns have been used as the extraction media for the determination of sex hormones, including estrogen, testosterone, methyltestosterone, and progesterone in cosmetics with the low LODs (not over 4.6 μg L –1 ) [ 67 , 68 ]. Based on the above features, Wei et al [ 69 ] prepared a porous monolithic polymer inside fiber by in situ photopolymerization combined with sacrificial support in hollow fiber ( Figure 4 c). Coupled with HPLC, this fabricated micro-SPE (µ-SPE) device could be used for prednisone acetate, prednisone and prednisolone determination in lotions with the LOD of 1.5 μg L –1 and recoveries of 69.0–113.3%.…”

“…Polymer hollow microspheres (PHM) are special microspheric materials with internal cavity structures. They have the characteristics of low density, large specific surface area, light weight, and excellent light scattering properties, and are often used as a covering pigment , [27] an additive for UV protection, 28 a drug carrier 29 and an additive for sound-absorbing and insulating materials. 30 Hollow microspheres filled with animal skin materials are mostly related to medical applications.…”
