In Vitro Antimicrobial Activity of Essential Oil Extracted from Leaves of Leoheo domatiophorus Chaowasku, D.T. Ngo and H.T. Le in Vietnam

Abstract: The present study aimed to determine the antimicrobial activity and chemical composition of leaves-extracted essential oil of Leoheo domatiophorus Chaowasku, D.T. Ngo and H.T. Le (L. domatiophorus), including antibacterial, antimycotic, antitrichomonas and antiviral effects. The essential oil was obtained using hydrodistillation, with an average yield of 0.34 ± 0.01% (v/w, dry leaves). There were 52 constituents as identified by GC/MS with available authentic standards, representing 96.74% of the entire leaves… Show more

“…15 Some new products of natural origin against K. pneumoniae were reported to be useful in hospital settings. [16][17][18][19][20] According to the clinical characteristics of invasive and non-invasive HvKP, fifty percent (22/43) of patients with invasive HvKP infection were mainly treated with antibiotics combined with abscess drainage, and their prognosis was good. Additionally, although the overall drug susceptibility of HvKP was lower than that of cKP, the clinical symptoms of HvKP-induced infections were very serious, especially bloodstream infections.…”

“…essential oil and leaves-extracted essential oil of Leoheo domatiophorus Chaowasku. 102,103 Besides, therapies of natural origin should be implemented especially in dermal infections such as a combination of propolis, tea tree oil, and Aloe vera and the combination of Myrtus communisL., Origanum vulgare and tretinoin (MOTC). 104,105 The spontaneous use of broad-spectrum antibiotics in the treatment of MRSA infection must be prohibited, and the ideal treatment should base on the eminent results of the antibiotic sensitivity test.…”

“…The antimicrobial activity of essential oils of some plants on multi-drug-resistant P. aeruginosa isolates in vitro has been shown by some previous studies. 18,19 Curcumin is an active phenolic component of Curcuma longa that has been investigated due to its pharmaceutical attributes. 6,20 Some studies confirming the effect of Curcumin on biofilm production in P. aeruginosa suggest that this effect is likely due to the QS of the bacterium and the downregulation of the regulatory genes involved in this process.…”
