In vitro embryo rescue for the production of hypotetraploids after cross between hypotetraploid and tetraploid grape cultivars

Abstract: Consumer demand for seedless grape with high quality and large berry has been increasing. Breeding of hypotetraploid grape was suggested as one of promising methods to satisfy it, but low frequency of hypotetraploid occurrence and low seed germination by abortive embryo were indicated as the major problem to hamper the development of hypotetraploid grape. Hence, this study was carried out to evaluate the basic efficiency of in ovulo embryo culture after the cross between hypotetraploid (‘Hanareum’) and tetrapl… Show more

“…Exploring the factors influencing consumer preferences helps to promote sustainable consumption. Understanding the preferences of table grape consumers and studying the factors that affect their preferences provide breeding workers with reference breeding directions (Si-Hong et al, 2020), and enable operators of the table grape industry to accurately predict consumer requirements and formulate appropriate marketing strategies (Qian et al, 2018;Zhou et al, 2015). In order to determine consumer preferences, some studies were conducted on their preferences of table grapes in China; however, preference predictions were not made (Mu et al, 2019;Yao et al, 2020;Zhou et al, 2016).…”

“…breed new grape cultivars in Korea (Heo and Park 2016;Kim et al 2020;Park et al 2022), they are mainly bred by crossing European and American grape cultivars and have relatively low resistance to cold and diseases. Because Korea experiences high precipitation in the summer and cold weather in the winter, the occurrence of damage due to diseases and cold can increase when grapes are grown in unfavorable environments, such as cold regions and open fields.…”

“…Furthermore, the additional labor required, which accounts for a large proportion of the operating expenses, increases the total production costs significantly. Therefore, substantial efforts have been made to breed and distribute new seedless grape cultivars to avoid the shortcomings of chemical treatment (Heo and Park, 2017;Kim et al, 2020;Park et al, 2015Park et al, , 2016Park et al, , 2020. As an attractive alternative, triploid grapes have extremely low fertility (Heo et al, 2007), and a single GA 3 application at full bloom is presumably sufficient, enabling the standardization of the production of seedless grapes (Heo and Park, 2016a).…”
