“…Our extensive experience suggests that this relatively low PR is unlikely to be due to incompetence. It is rather, we believe, the result of certain factors regarding patient selection: (i) the heterogeneity of the population which includes patients who may have decreased endometrial receptivity including those of advanced age (Levran et al, 1991;Meldrum, 1993;Yaron et al, 1993Yaron et al, , 1995, and patients with an abnormal karyotype (Yaron et al, 1996); (ii) the inclusion of a greater proportion of patients who have repeatedly failed previous embryo transfer cycles; and (iii) the use of anonymous donors only, undergoing IVF themselves, in accordance with the regulations of the Israeli Ministry of Health. Such donors are, in fact, 'subfertile'.…”

“…Moreover, clinical studies comparing oocyte donation in younger and older women have also indicated that there is an age-related decline in PR (Levran et al, 1991;Yaron et al, 1993Yaron et al, ,1995Meldrum, 1993;Cano et al, 1996). Since donated oocytes are obtained from young patients, the age-related decline in PR with oocyte donation cannot be attributed to oocyte quality.…”

“…On the other hand, it was reported that advanced maternal age of surrogate mothers cannot be the reason for the lower frequency of positive results in IVF when using donated eggs from third‐party donors (Check et al ., 1993; Sauer et al ., 1993; Borini et al ., 1995; Yaron et al ., 1995). The results of pregnancies in surrogate mothers of different ages were similar.…”

“…20 Practitioners also recommend that women over age 40 trying IVF should consider using eggs from younger women to increase their chances of pregnancy, inasmuch as birth rates for women over 40 in IVF programs approximate those of younger participants when donated eggs are used. 21 ' 22 By using hormonal therapy and donated eggs, even postmenopausal women can give birth.…”
