In Vivo Stability and Photodynamic Efficacy of Fluorinated Bacteriopurpurinimides Derived from Bacteriochlorophyll-a

Abstract: The stable bacteriopurpurinimide (788 nm, epsilon: 38,600 in CH2Cl2), obtained by reducing the corresponding unstable Schiff base (803 nm, epsilon: 50,900 in CH2Cl2) that was isolated by reacting bacteriopurpurin methyl ester with 3,5-bis-(trifluoromethyl)benzylamine, produced promising photosensitizing efficacy. 1H NMR, mass spectrometry, and HPLC analyses confirmed the structures of new bacteriopurpurinimides and the metabolic product. The preliminary in vivo photosensitizing efficacy of this stable bacterio… Show more

“…For example, unstable bacteriochlorophyll-a, can be converted into a stable bacteriopurpurinimide, and some of its alkyl ether derivatives are quite effective photosensitizers [126]. The same authors also developed a stable fluorinated bacteriopurpurinimide derived from the naturally occurring bacteriochlorophyll-a with interesting photophysical and phototherapeutic potential [127]. authors [49].…”

“…Therefore, to establish a correlation between the vascularity and PDT efficacy, the estimates of vascularity in both Colon-26 and U87 tumors were determined by histopathology analysis. 41,42 …”

“…Halogenated porphyrins have been studied as sensitizers in PDT; for fluorinated derivatives, superior photodynamic properties have been observed [29][30][31]. With other halogen atoms some reports confirmed the expected superior behaviour for singlet oxygen formation, as expected from the heavy atom effect [8,32] but photocytoxicity was not studied.…”
