Incidence and disease burden of prostate cancer from 1990 to 2017: Results from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2017

Abstract: BACKGROUND: The patterns of the incidence and mortality of prostate cancer (PC) have been changing over the years. In addition, the unclear etiology of PC necessitates further studies into the geographic distribution and age composition of patients with PC. This study was aimed at examining the patterns of the epidemiology of PC to help policymakers to allocate the limited resources of the health care system accordingly. METHODS: Annual case data and age-standardized rates (ASRs) were obtained for the incidenc… Show more

“…The incidence and mortality of PCa increased with age. In 2017, more than 70% of PCa patients were over 64 years old in the world, and 80% of PCa deaths were more than 65 years old [21], which was in line with the applicable age range of GNRI .…”

“…In the calculating formula y = βx + α, x refers to calendar year, and y refers to log10 (age-standardized rate). EAPC was calculating as following: EAPC = 100* (10^β -1) [ 15 , 17 19 ]. When EAPC value and its 95 % confidence interval (CI) are greater than zero, the age-standardized rate is upward.…”

“…Annual data on TBL cancer were derived from the Global Health Data Exchange (GHDx) query tool (http://ghdx.healthdata.org/gbd-results-tool), including cases, deaths, and DALYs. The basic instructions of the GBD study and the methods for estimating the cancer burden have already been introduced in our previous studies [8][9][10][11]. More GBD 2017 study data information was listed in Additional file 1.…”
