Incidence ofPotato Spindle Tuber Viroid(PSTVs) in Potato Growing Areas of Punjab

Abstract: Potato Spindle Tuber Viroid (PSTVs) infection in potato fields of Punjab was determined by mechanical transmission and reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Potato plants and tubers showing symptoms of PSTVd were selected and transported to lab for indexing. Sap extracts prepared from symptomatic leaves and tubers of potato plants when mechanically inoculated on leaves of young tomato seedlings showed symptoms like epinasty and rugosity after 10 days of inoculation. PSTVd was further detect… Show more

“…PSTVd primarily infects solanaceous plants leading to dwar sm, leaf chlorosis and curling, and malformation of leaves and fruit [13]. PSTVd can also infect some ornamental plants and has been reported in several Asian and Middle Eastern countries including Japan [1,4,7,9,12,14,17]. In addition, several other pospiviroids have been reported such as tomato chlorotic dwarf viroid (TCDVd) that causes chlorotic leaves, severe dwar sm and bunching in tomatoes and coleus blumei viroid (CbVd)-5 from coleus [6, 8, 9, 18].…”
