“…Another recent study using a dual-report paradigm did observe some flexibility in the binding mechanism ( Schneegans et al, in press ). In particular, it found that presentation time could take over the role of space in mediating binding between other features when sample items were presented sequentially at the same location, and that a mix of binding strategies may be used when stimuli are separated both in time and space (see also Heuer & Rolfs, 2021 ). However, this study likewise did not find any evidence for object-based representations as basis for feature binding, supporting the view that binding via space is the default mechanism when memorizing simultaneously displayed sample arrays.…”
