“…The use of lead ammunition poses human, wildlife, and environmental risks wherever it occurs and countries such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Argentina are all undergoing similar transitions to those seen in Europe and the U.S. For example, in Australia, early concern focused on poisoning of wildfowl from lead shotgun ammunition (Koh and Harper 1988), with a more recent growth in concern around the use of lead rifle ammunition (Hampton et al 2018) and efforts to assess the efficacy of nonlead rifle ammunition for shooting mammals (Hampton et al 2021).
