Inclusion Complexes of Lycopene and β-Cyclodextrin: Preparation, Characterization, Stability and Antioxidant Activity

Abstract: In this study, the inclusion complexes of lycopene with β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) were prepared by the precipitation method. Then the inclusion complexes were characterized by the scanning electron microscopy (SEM), ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV), microscopic observation, liquid chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and phase-solubility study. Moreover, the stability and antioxidant activity were tested. The results showed that lycopene was embedded into the cavity of β-CD with a 1:1 stoic… Show more

“…This result was hypothesized that the complex of each process occurred by the formation of a spectrum profile through the measurement of UV-Vis spectrophotometer. In the previous studies, the formation of the βcyclodextrin-lycopene complex, measured using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer, showed a shift in the absorption peaks and a higher absorbance in the complex compounds (Wang et al, 2019). They were shifting the absorption peak of NFD samples with FD samples in the direction of lower wavelength or hypsochromic shift (blue shift).…”

“…It had gained great interest as its biological properties in the antioxidant activity, anti-inflammatory, cancer prevention, and cardiovascular protection. It was abundant in tomatoes and tomato-based products [37,38]. The addition of LE significantly increased linseed oil antioxidant capacity (ABTS test).…”

“…The development of synthetic antioxidants is attractive, as it allows one to manipulate the physicochemical properties to improve the antioxidant properties for various applications. It is crucial to notice that there are several reports on the inclusion complexes of these macrocycles, including cyclodextrins with antioxidant activities [26][27][28][29][30]. However, this review is focused mainly on the direct chemical modifications of calix [n]arene, resorcinarene, calixtyrosol, calixpyrrole, cucurbit[n]uril, and porphyrin scaffolds to synthesize the novel antioxidant compounds.…”
