Incorporation of Nanoparticles Based on Zingiber Officinale Essential Oil into Alginate Films for Sustained Release

Abstract: This research focused on the formulation of Ca2+ cross-linked alginate (Alg) gels containing Zingiber officinale oil extract (ZOE) loaded into a nanostructured lipid carrier (NLC). The NLC is intended to protect the Zingiber officinale oil against physical and chemical degradation during topical administration to sustain the drug release and reduce drug leakage during storage. The NLC was prepared using hot homogenisation and ultrasonication of glyceryl monostearate. Virgin coconut oil was used as the liquid l… Show more

“…Previous studies have investigated the encapsulation of Z. officinale in NLCs using commercially available ginger oil, 14 red ginger extract, 15 and essential oils. 16 NLCs, a second-generation form of lipid nanoparticles, possess a structure that enables the efficient transport of flavonoids into the body, thereby enhancing their absorption, therapeutic efficacy, permeability, bioavailability, solubility, reduced adverse effects, longer half-life, and tissue-targeted systemic delivery. 17 molecules and leading to an enhanced drug loading capacity.…”

“…The crosslinked surface layer can effectively retain the internal sol within the targeted zone without leakage, preventing the degradation reaction from spreading to healthy tissues. [ 21 ] Therefore, the exploration of a novel TiO 2‐x ‐Alginate (TA) complex , which combines NIR/H 2 O 2 co‐activated ROS generation and Ca 2+ ‐assisted vesicle‐like structure formation, holds tremendous potential for achieving safer and more efficient implant decontamination (Scheme 1III).…”
