Increased MCP-1 and MIP-1β in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid of chronic bronchitics

Abstract: CC-chemokines are chemotactic factors expressed in a wide range of cell types and tissues. The aim of this study was to evaluate the involvement of CCchemokines in the airways inflammation of patients affected by chronic bronchitis. The study evaluated, with an immunoassay, the concentrations of monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1), macrophage inflammatory protein-1a (MIP-1a) and macrophage inflammatory protein-1b (MIP-1b), in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) of 12 smokers affected by chronic bronchiti… Show more

“…Macrophages from COPD patients are more active and secrete more inflammatory proteins, such as chemokines, metalloproteinases and cytokines. The increased amount of macrophages may depend on enhanced recruitment of monocytes from the circulation which been found in BALf from patients with chronic bronchitis [101].…”

“…Levels of CCL4 are increased in alcoholic liver disease [9], glomerulonephritis, acute renal transplant rejection [10], human sepsis [11], and advanced atherosclerosis lesions [12]. There are no reports regarding the role of CCL4 in asthma disease but there are some observations of higher levels of this cytokine in several pulmonary conditions such as chronic bronchitis [13], pulmonary fibrosis [14], and cystic fibrosis [15].…”
