“…For all five patients, GMA was performed by using the Adacolumn (JIMRO, Takasaki, Japan) designed Adsorptive Depletion of CD16 + Monocytes 437 to selectively deplete granulocytes and monocytes, according to previously described methods (5,(7)(8)(9)(10)(11). Briefly, the column is an adsorptive type leukocytapheresis medical device filled with cellulose acetate beads of 2 mm in diameter as the column adsorptive carriers (11,16).…”

“…Granulocyte and monocyte adsorption apheresis (GMA) has been used for over a decade in Japan and European countries as an extracorporeal therapeutic intervention in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) (5) such as ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD) which are refractory to conventional drugs including biologics (6). Further, in recent years, several reports have shown striking efficacy for GMA in patients with various skin disorders (1,7–10). GMA uses a column filled with cellulose acetate beads, which adsorbs approximately 65% of granulocytes, 55% of monocytes from blood in the column (6,11).…”
