Increasing Nitric Oxide Bioavailability attenuates Vascular Dysfunction and rescues Fetal Growth in female rats with history of acute kidney injury prior to pregnancy
Abstract:Clinical data report a 3-5-fold increase in adverse pregnancy outcomes in women with a history of acute kidney injury (AKI), despite clinical recovery of renal function (creatinine clearance) before pregnancy. We recently showed that female Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats recovered from AKI develop increased blood pressure, uterine artery resistance and decreased fetal growth in pregnancy. Healthy pregnancies are characterized by robust nitric oxide (NO) production and reduction in total peripheral vascular resistanc… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
