Increasing Social Work Students' Political Interest and Efficacy: The Experience and Impact of a Social Welfare Policy Course from the Students' Perspective

Abstract: Students of accredited social work programs are expected to demonstrate ten core competencies, including the ability to "engage in policy practice to advance social and economic well-being and to deliver effective social work services" (Council on Social Work Education, 2008). “…While some curricula focus on infusing social and political advocacy content across courses (DeRigne, Rosenwald, & Naranjo, ), other programs have developed specific courses dedicated to social policy and advocacy (DeRigne, ; Leukefeld, ; Shdaimah, ).
