Indexing and retrieval in case-based process planning for multi-stage non-axisymmetric deep drawing

Abstract: This paper presents a case-based reasoning (CBR) methodology for computer-aided process planning (CAPP) for multi-stage, non-axisymmetric sheet metal deep drawing. The methodology addresses the indexing and retrieval of process planning cases. Planning cases are indexed via a feature-based representation of deep drawn parts. Efficient case retrieval is achieved by a feature-based similarity analysis between a new deep drawn part and existing parts in the case library. An illustrative example is included to dem… Show more

“…In many cases, design practice is based on past experiences and these experiences are adapted to solve new problems [18]. Hence to reuse previous cost estimation experience, it is necessary to define cases by analyzing the offer process to identify documents (e.g., CAD models, offers/orders) and data model (see Fig.…”

“…By using a hierarchical classification structure, a stamped metal part with four stamping feature categories is represented as a case in the case library. Zhang et al [23] extended the work of Tor et al by extracting a set of deep drawing features for multi-stage, non-axisymmetrical sheet-metal deep drawing. Liu et al [13] presented a novel representational model for objected-oriented case information relationship.…”

“…The traditional stamping process is direct stamping; the slide of the mechanical press is directly stamped to the mold due to the simple slide motion system. For some complex shape automotive parts, multi-stage forming has to be performed [4]. However, there are many disadvantages in mechanical stamping and multi-stage processes.…”
