Historically, urban watercourses have been rectified and channeled, directly impacting their hydrological dynamics and the water cycle. Currently, the recovery of environmental and social services of urban rivers and streams has been a worldwide trend in an attempt to make cities more sustainable. This study applied the Environmental Conservation Index of Urban Streams (ECIUS), developed by Cometti et al. (2022), to two streams in the city of Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil. The ECIUS is made up of nine indicators, based on the pressure-state-response model and calculated using a system based on fuzzy rules. The Cavouco stream presented the “regular” ECIUS in stretch 1 and “bad” in stretches 2, 3, 4, and 5. As for the Parnamirim stream, sections 1 and 2 presented ECIUS as “bad” and section 3 as “terrible.” ECIUS proved to be an easy-to-apply tool for modeling and translating complex environmental and social variables into easy-to-understand linguistic variables. The tool can be used for diagnosis and to serve as a decision support for urban stream revitalization and monitoring interventions.

The Amazonia rainforest has natural spaces that have undergone extensive and intense transformations, mainly to meet economic demands, camouflaged in biological and social needs. As one of the consequences of this process, the production and expansion of the urban space stand out. In this context, this research describes the historical, spatial, and temporal aspects of land use and occupation in the surroundings of Lake of Juá, located in the municipality of Santarém, west of the State of Pará, Brazil, in order to highlight the main changes in the landscape and socioenvironmental changes arising from this dynamic. The study was conducted based on photographic records, elaboration, and analysis of cartographic data, in addition to the perceptions of residents and fishermen located in the study area, which, together, contributed to the understanding of the historical and spatial changes that led to the current socioenvironmental transformations in the surroundings of the lake. The residents and local fishermen of Lake of Juá, through semi-structured interviews, listed several socioenvironmental overlapping problems that had many impacts on this lake ecosystem, such as deforestation, silting, contamination of water resources and, consequently, fishing resources, loss of biodiversity and conflict of interest. The degradation and decharacterization of the landscape around the lake has compromised the maintenance of this lake ecosystem, as significant and even irreversible transformations have been caused in the community and in the ecological environment, especially when taking into account the absence of public policies or their inefficiency.

Os impactos ambientais são considerados os principais fatores que influenciam no desvanecimento do ambiente natural. Quando ocorrem nas nascentes ou nos cursos dos rios tornam-se ameaças à saúde pública e contribuem para a perda de biodiversidade. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho consistiu no levantamento das nascentes do Rio Prata situadas dentro do IFMA - Campus Maracanã e na avaliação da qualidade ambiental das mesmas, visando fornecer subsídios necessários para as ações voltadas a sua manutenção e recuperação, além de contribuir para o planejamento de sua utilização. Logo, realizou-se levantamento e revisão das informações e dos tipos de uso e ocupação atuais do Rio da Prata, a seleção de indicadores de impacto ambiental (lixo, processos erosivos, preservação da vegetação; turbidez e odor da água), além da avaliação destes parâmetros em campo. Foram localizadas e demarcadas duas nascentes do Rio da Prata, que se encontram dentro do IFMA - Campus Maracanã. As nascentes foram consideradas com mínima ou pouca presença de impacto ambiental. No entanto, para os impactos identificados foram propostas algumas estratégias de manejo para amenizar ou eliminá-los nas nascentes estudadas, como o cumprimento legal e conservação das áreas de preservação permanente. As nascentes analisadas estão longe de residências e/ou indústrias além de não possuir atividades turísticas frequentes, ou seja, é certo concluir que as nascentes estão sem presença de impactos ambientais significativos.
