Indicateurs physiologiques pour le screening de génotypes de tournesol tolérants aux basses températures associées au semis précoce

Abstract: Sunflower is a summer crop often subjected to water stress, which could reduce substantially the yield. Early sowing is one of the crop management strategies to escape the drought stress mainly during flowering. Sowing one or two months earlier may lead to place the seeds and seedlings growth in conditions of low temperature. Low temperature exposure has consequences for most biological processes. It initiates also a number of physiological changes which can lead the plant to be more cold tolerant. Physiologic… Show more

“…where Tmax is the maximum daily temperature in °C; Tmin, the minimum daily temperature in °C and Tb is the base temperature for sunflower growth. Here, as an approximation, we have chosen 5°C as Tb value, in agreement with Gay et al (1991) and Allinne (2009), because the base temperature for germination for each genotype was not available.…”

“…Consequently, seedlings and young plants could be exposed to cold stress (low temperatures, frost) in the early stages of development (germination, emergence, 2-3 leaf stage). Cold stress, which includes both chilling (T > 0°C) and freezing (T < 0°C), modifies gene expression and plant metabolism with consequences on many biological functions (Alline et al, 2010;Janmohammadi et al, 2015;Hniličková et al, 2017). The conditions of exposure (timing, intensity, duration) are to be considered to explain the final response.…”

“…Chlorophyll content and specific leaf area among others have been genetically associated with cold tolerance, so they could be used as selection criteria in breeding programs (Alline et al, 2009(Alline et al, , 2010Fabio et al, 2016). From QTL analyses, it was illustrated that several putative genomic regions are involved in the variation of physiological traits under cold conditions (Alline et al, 2009;Škorić, 2009;Tetreault et al, 2016;Mangin et al, 2017;Miladinović et al, 2019).…”

“…Différents indicateurs physiologiques ont été proposés pour le screening de génotypes pour la tolérance aux basses tempé-ratures (Allinne et al, 2010), dont un indice photochimique déterminé par la mesure de la fluorescence des chlorophylles a (Strauss et al, 2006). Une tolérance photosynthétique aux basses températures est un caractère essentiel pour assurer une croissance foliaire rapide et atteindre rapidement la fermeture du couvert (Allen et Ort, 2001).…”
