No reliable relationships were found between abiliiy siruciure or personality traits and iype of criminal activity. Like male addicts. however, female addicts were found to experience greater sociopaihy andpsychologicaldiscomfort than were nonoddict female oflenders.he past t women decade has seen a dramatic growth in the number of involved in crime and addiction. The rate of increase in narcotic drug law violations (Uniform Crime Reports, 1976) was 515%, and for females under 18 the rate increased 634.5%. Similarly, the percentage of women involved in property crime was 147.1% and violent crime increased 92.9%. (These last figures include forcible rape, with which females cannot be charged.)

Evaluation of a detoxification regimen for fat stored xenobiotics

A detoxification regimen has been found to be safe for use by individuals exposed to recreational (abused) and medical drugs, patent medicines, occupational and environmental chemicals Patients with high blood pressure had a mean reduction of 30.8 mm systolic, 23.3 mm diastolic. Cholesterol level mean reduction was 19.5 mg/100ml, while triglycerides did not change. Medical complications associated with the program were rare, occuring in less than three percent of the subjects. The program resulted in improvements in psychological test scores. The mean increase in Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale IQ was 6.7 points. High Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory profiles decreased on the third scale (10.7), the fourth scale (8.0), the fifth scale (4.5) and the sixth scale (8.0). The decrease in the fourth scale suggests hope for sociopaths, a group with fourth scale scores not improved by National Institute for Mental Health or Narcotic Addict Rehabilitation Act inpatient programs.

A comparison between volunteer drug-abusers and non-drug-abusers on measures of social skills

This study assessed specific behavior patterns of volunteering "had" drug-abusers in comparison to non-drug-abusers on self-report and behavioral measures of social skills. It was hypothesized that the individual's behavior is affected both by his group affiliation and by the immediate situational variables. Twelve drug-abusers and 12 university students were asked to interact with trained role-players in simulated social situations geared to elicit assertiveness and heterosexual dating behaviors. Task requirements as well as environmental social consequences (role-player's responses) were manipulated. Contingent on the situation type, both groups demonstrated basically the same level of social efficiency on verbal measures, but showed different performances on nonverbal measures. Preferential social interaction responses were found to be affected by the varied environmental feedback. The relevance of an "interactionist" approach to research on drug abuse and some crucial methodological factors are discussed.
