Indices for complete dentures after cleaning at home

Abstract

Background: According to experts, there are more than 350 million cases of total adentia worldwide, which is almost 7% of the total world population. Such patients need to use removable dentures, which require more careful disinfection than natural teeth. Hygienic treatment prevents microbial contamination of dentures, and also provides prevention of the development of inflammatory complications. Aims: to evaluate the effectiveness of the of anolyte use for disinfection of removable dentures at home. Materials and methods: the cleanliness of surface of removable dentures was analyzed using the Ulitovsky-Leontiev index. The effectiveness of using Anolyte ANK solution for disinfection of removable dentures was compared with a 0.05% chlorhexidine solution (СH). Statistical methods of examination: Ulitovsky-Leontiev index, checking data for compliance with the normal law. Threshold value or initial level of statistical significance p=0.05, Comparative evaluation of data within each group (6 comparisons) with Bonferroni correction critical value p=0.0083. Results When assessing the dentures cleanliness (DC) using the Ulitovsky-Leontiev index, it was found that after 1 month of using the Anolyte ANK solution, the level of the DC index changed from 4.67 points (“poor” level of DC) to 3.6 points (“satisfactory” level of DC). After 6 months of using the Anolyte ANK solution, the level of the DC index changed to 1.55 points (“high” level of DC). After 1 month of using a 0.05% chlorhexidine bigluconate solution (CH), the level of the DC index changed from 4.85 points (“poor” DC level) to 4.3 points (p — 0.0083) (“poor” DC level). After 6 months of using the CH solution, the level of the DC index changed to 2.55 points (p — 0.0083) (“high” level of DC). Conclusion: It has been established that the Anolyte ANK solution is suitable for disinfection and cleaning of complete removable dentures at home. 6-month use gave the most significant result.
