Este estudo avaliou a implementação e o impacto do Plano Nacional de Educação Escolar Indígena (PNEEI) no estado do Maranhão, Brasil, utilizando o Índice de Desenvolvimento da Educação Básica (IDEB) como principal indicador. A análise focou nas variações de desempenho no IDEB entre 2007 e 2019, destacando os avanços e desafios enfrentados pelas escolas indígenas na região. Apesar de melhorias graduais na infraestrutura e na matrícula estudantil, a falta de recursos sustentáveis e políticas governamentais consistentes ameaçam a eficácia do PNEEI. Através de uma metodologia de Avaliação de Impacto, investigamos a relação causal entre a implementação do PNEEI e as melhorias educacionais observadas, oferecendo insights sobre como fatores contextuais e socioeconômicos influenciam a eficácia da política. Os resultados indicam que, enquanto algumas comunidades mostram progresso significativo, outras continuam a enfrentar barreiras que impedem a igualdade no acesso à educação de qualidade. Este estudo contribui para o entendimento de como políticas educacionais direcionadas podem promover a justiça social e a preservação cultural, sugerindo a necessidade de adaptações nas políticas para atender melhor às necessidades específicas das comunidades indígenas maranhenses.
