Overall our study demonstrates that the OPTs enabled a rough evaluation of the miniscrew position in relation to the surrounding structures. However, the probands' assessments were imprecise. Major deviations appeared in the determination of the proximity of the screw to the dental root. For this reason, if there is any doubt, patients should take advantage of three-dimensional (3D) diagnostics, preferably before any surgical intervention. This is true, for example, if it is unclear whether a root will be or has been perforated, or indeed whether there is sufficient transverse bone tissue.
