Indirect Implant‐Supported Fixed Provisional Restoration in the Esthetic Zone: Fabrication Technique and Treatment Workflow

Abstract: Laboratory-fabricated implant-supported provisional restorations allow the esthetic and functional substitution of the missing dentition and the shaping of the soft tissue profile, and can act as a blueprint in the fabrication of definitive restorations.

“…Different approaches have been suggested to fabricate implant‐supported provisional restorations . They can be fabricated either chair side or at the dental laboratory . Chair side provisional restorative materials can be divided into two major resin groups: methacrylates (methyl methacrylate and ethyl methacrylate) and bis‐acryl composites .…”

“…1,6,7 Because a customized impression coping maintains the emergent profile, esthetic outcome and level of patient comfort are predictable at the insertion of an implant-supported definitive prosthesis (ISDP). [2][3][4][5][6][7] However, an additional laboratory procedure is necessary for a customized impression coping. With computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology, a customized abutment can also be applied to control the emergence profile.…”

“…[1][2][3][4][5] A customized impression coping prevents the collapse of the well-defined periimplant soft tissue into the space above the implant during the removal of an implant-supported interim prosthesis (ISIP). 1,6,7 Because a customized impression coping maintains the emergent profile, esthetic outcome and level of patient comfort are predictable at the insertion of an implant-supported definitive prosthesis (ISDP).…”
