Inductive Wireless Power Transfer Charging for Electric Vehicles–A Review

Abstract: Considering a future scenario in which a driverless Electric Vehicle (EV) needs an automatic charging system without human intervention. In this regard, there is a requirement for a fully automatable, fast, safe, cost-effective, and reliable charging infrastructure that provides a profitable business model and fast adoption in the electrified transportation systems. These qualities can be comprehended through wireless charging systems. Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) is a futuristic technology with the advantage… Show more

“…Due to the flexibility that wireless charging offers, the EV charging process can also occur during temporary stops or even while driving, thus allowing, a reduced power capacity for the batteries [73]. The Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) is a wireless charging method and stands out as futuristic technology with the advantage of flexibility, convenience, and safety and the capacity to become fully automated in addition to its high efficiency and easy maintenance [74].…”

“…In recent research, the compensation is very important in reducing the VA rating of the compensation at both sides and the CC/CV charging. In [26], S-LCC, LCC-S and LCC-LCC are compared in detail. Especially, LCC-S compensation topology shows that the WPT system still has a good transmission efficiency in a wide range of load changes [27][28][29][30][31].…”

“…To increase the efficiency and reduce the reactive power of the WPT system, it is necessary to achieve the resonant condition for both transmitter and receiver sides [3]. There are four types of traditional resonant topologies using a capacitor compensated coil on one side as Series-Series (S-S), Series-Parallel (S-P), Parallel-Series (P-S), Parallel-Parallel (P-P) [4].…”
