INDUTEC®/EZINEX® Integrate Process on Secondary Zinc-Bearing Materials

Abstract: Steel used for many different applications is more and more often coated with zinc for corrosion protection purposes. The growing amount of Electric Arc Furnace Dust (EAFD) generated during the production of steel requires treatment that is able to convert this dust into usable materials. The current state of the art for the treatment of these wastes is based on the use of a Waelz Kiln, or any other zinc fuming system, where the zinc contained in the EAFD is concentrated in Crude Zinc Oxide (C.Z.O.), which is … Show more

“…The INDUTEC/EZINEX process is the only hydrometallurgical treatment that operates on an industrial scale [151][152][153][154]. In the 1990s, the Italian company Engitec developed the EZINEX ("Engitec zinc extraction") process and a pilot plant to treat Zn-bearing EAF dust.…”

“…Classic Zincex process and Ezinex process involves leaching metal oxides (ZnO, PbO, etc.) from dust in an acidic or alkaline solvents [14,15]. Leaching solutions, such as sulfuric acid, allow good zinc recovery, but can also cause secondary waste and dissolve iron (e.g.…”

“…In recent years, the process has been modified with high-temperature pre-treatment of zinc-bearing material (fuming in an induction furnace). As a result of this process, raw zinc oxide is subjected to a hydrometallurgical treatment, and the integrated technology is called ENDUTEC/EZINEX [6]. Another process (Modified Zincex Process) is a modification and simplification of the former process (Zincex) using atmospheric leaching (H 2 SO 4 solution), solvent extraction and conventional electrowinning, in order to resolve impurity difficulties and recover Special High Grade (SHG) zinc ingots [8].…”
