The nuclear structures of 193Ir and 195Ir have been studied using the 194pt(t,~) and 196pt(t, c0 reactions. Levels up to ~2MeV in excitation energy were studied with a resolution of ~ 13 keV (FWHM) and spectroscopic strengths were extracted. The lowlying states in 193Ir have been interpreted in terms of both the Nilsson and the rotationvibration models including Coriolis, particle-vibration and rotation-vibrational coupl- . Surprisingly, there was no significant difference between the stripping and pick-up strengths for the low-lying states in 193Ir, suggesting that the equilibrium nuclear shape of 193Ir has large overlaps with the shapes of both 192Os and 194pt. The nuclear level structure of 195Ir appears to be similar to those of the lighter iridium isotopes.

The M 1 and E 2 reduced transition probabilities in 191Ir and 199Ir have been calculated on the weak particle-core coupling model. The static moments of the ground state and the first three low-lying excited states have been computed. The theoretical values are in good agreement with the experimental results, in particular, the existing discrepancy between the theoretical and the experimental value for the magnetic moment of the first excited 5/2 + state, in both these nuclei, has been removed. The predicted sign of the quadrupole moment of the 2 + state in the neighbouring even-even nuclei is consistent with the results reported for Platinum nuclei. The level structure of both these nuclei has been calculated assuming the particle-core interaction to be dipole-dipole and quadrupole-quadrupole type.
